Clayton Lions Club Community Outreach Chairperson Linda Leuser.

Sept. 1st, 2015- The Clayton Lions Club recently promoted literacy and reading by presenting a check for the purchase of new library books to the Cooper Elementary School Librarian, Michele Byrd. This event is part of the Lions Clubs International Reading Action Program, a global literacy initiative that focuses on implementing reading and education projects to help increase literacy rates worldwide.

“Lions are dedicated to providing service. That renowned dedication will help us in everything we do – including participation in the Reading Action Program to promote reading,” said Dan Gilmartin, President of the Clayton Lions Club. In addition to the current literacy project, the club runs a variety of service projects, including free vision exams, Camp Dogwood for the visually impaired, support of the Clayton food bank, and help with the cost of eye glasses.

Lions clubs are groups of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs. For more information or to get involved with the Clayton Lions Club, please contact Linda Leuser at 919-938-0000.
